Professional advice to improve
your chances of success

Introduction

There are many people who love to write and want to try and get published. Attempting publication can be a huge challenge, requiring lots of perseverance and patience because the market is so competitive; in the UK alone approximately 100,000 books are published every year. I can't promise publication but I can give professional advice which will help you along in your efforts to improve your chances of success.

About Anne Joseph

I'm a freelance editor who works independently with writers. I was also the submissions editor for a small, established publisher and therefore have contact with literary agents. I'm particularly interested in work from journalists and new writers. I specialize in non-fiction, Jewish subjects/Middle East and children's books.

I began working in publishing some years ago when I helped with the PR for a book written by a friend of mine. This launched me into a career change and I then went on to gain further experience within other areas of publishing. I decided that my primary interest was editorial and as a freelance editor have since worked with a variety of publishers and authors. I have had a book published (From the Edge of the World, Vallentine Mitchell: 2003) and so have the additional advantage of being acutely aware of what it's like to sit on the author's side of the publishing fence.

Client Feedback

"A huge thank you for all your help in editing my book. Your intelligent, perceptive and sensitive comments regarding tone and content were so thorough and concise that they gave me a very clear direction of the way forward from first to second draft. Your wonderful understanding, encouragement and easy approachability made it a total joy to work with you."

"Anne's critique was key to my eventual rewriting and restructuring. Her approach was invaluable on two fronts: whilst acknowledging that the writing was 'strong' she pulled no punches in identifying the novel's faults, and secondly she clearly pointed the way to achieving the novel's potential and also ensured that my fragile writer's ego remained intact!"

"Anne Joseph has provided me with excellent editorial support on several projects. From appraisal of my initial ideas to the final drafts, her analysis and advice was always spot on and made me look at the texts with fresh eyes. Vitally, she also introduced me to two publishers - both of whom I have now worked for."
